About Shillong

Shillong, the capital city of Meghalaya (literally meaning "The Abode of Clouds") is also known as 'Scotland of the East' due to its striking similarity with the Scottish Highlands. The city is just 55 km from Mawsynram, the world's wettest place and one of the premier tourist destinations in the northeast India. Shillong is located at an altitude of 4,908 feet (1,496 m) above sea level, with the highest point being Shillong Peak at 6,449 feet (1,966 m). The city is famous for heavy rainfalls, caving, tallest waterfalls, beautiful landscapes and amazing people and culture. Shillong is also famous as the music capital of India, as many prominent musicians have hailed from this place. Many music events keep happening throughout the year, making it a very lively place.

How to reach Shillong

Shillong city is well connected by Air via Guwahati Airport (GAU) with many airlines operating on International as well as domestic sectors. The airport is situated 120 kilometers from Shillong and well connected to Shillong through a 4 lane highway.

The organizers would make arrangements to receive the participants at Guwahati airport and transport them to Shillong.

Shillong can also be reached by air from Kolkatta (CCU). The airport at Shillong (SHL) is located at Umroi, 24 km (14.9 mi) from Shillong. Air India operates flights from the airport to Kolkatta (CCU). Air India operates regular flights from Kolkatta Shillong. The organizers would make arrangements for receiving the participants at Shillong airport.

For participants from Europe the tickets could be booked from their respective places to Delhi (DEL) via either Vienna or Istanbul or Frankfurt and then from Delhi to Guwahati. We are appointing a travel desk for facilitating the bookings of delegates. Delhi has direct air connections with most European cities. Even Beijingor Guangzhou, Narita (Japan) or Incheon (Korea) has direct flights to Delhi.

Various International airlines also operate regular flights to Kolkata (CCU) from different International airports. Kolkatta(CCU) is very well connected to Guwahati airport (GAU) by several airlines operating daily flights to Guwahati.

We would expect the delegates to arrive at Guwahati airport (GAU) on September 1 or morningof Sept. 2. We shall be making arrangements for travel of delegates from Guwahati to Shillong by chartered cars/mini vans. It takes 2 hours to reach Shillong from Guwahati by road. The delegates can book their return journey from Guwahati to Delhi by the afternoon /evening flights of Sept. 8. The return tickets from Delhi can be booked for Sept. 10. Those who would not be participating in the brainstorming meeting in Delhi may book their return travel from Delhi on September 9.

The arrangements for stay would be facilitated in different resorts/hotels in Shillong. The travel desk would be facilitating this too.
